Release 0.9

Sat, 03/29/2014 - 22:09 -- BlueWinds

So, here's the final backers-only release. In the next few days I'll be finishing up the last few details (and fixing any bugs discovered here) for a full public (free) release of the game. Expect it... very early April.

In this release:

  • Katri is now hireable (and her transformation related events should be a bit smoother).
  • I finished the last ~10 images for Katri.
  • There is a fourth loan payment (not a ton of text surrounding it, but some).
  • Apologizing to Alison after your fight (you can only trigger this event once, so you'll probably have to start a new game to see it).
  • A big gangbang is now available once you've hired all the women.
  • I tweaked the whoring money calculation. I didn't test the change, so you all will have to tell me how well it compares to Baths / Public Use now.

Someone asked earlier how much harassment I deal with that you all never see - in general, about a message a week. It's not regular - it comes in patches. Recently there was a larger influx after a long dry spell.

I'm somewhat fortunate in that regard - it's generally pretty low-key, both numerically and tone-wise compared to what more popular (or "popular") women online recieve. No death threats yet, and a lot less sexual aggression.

Yay! New release! \(o⌒∇⌒o)/

I'm relieved to hear you get that much of harrasment as you'd thought. Personally, I'd want to rip the guts out of those few who do... (`A´)

But on a side note, now that you're coming to the 1.0 release, how complete you'd say the game overall is? It's just that, I've been wondering... Are we coming close to the end? Is this it..? TT_TT

PS: Aaand, we have a bug while meeting Tom...

Kind of embarassing - my own static analysis tool would have told me this was going to happen, if I'd remembered to run it. ^^;;

Thanks for reporting.

The game is pretty much as complete as it's going to get, plus or minus a for small scenes. Yep, sad day for everyone, I know.

"I'm somewhat fortunate in that regard - it's generally pretty low-key, both numerically and tone-wise compared to what more popular (or "popular") women online recieve. I mean sure, disagree with her on stuff, that's what a democracy's made of, but when people start giving her death threats (even in jest) for saying "Hey, maybe women need a fair shake in your bidyagaems", that's a line too far. About the only good thing I saw coming out of that were normal (i.e. non-gaming) people going "Wow, maybe she's got a point".

As per usual the vocal minority get the most attention, the vast majority of gamers don't even know or care about Anita Sarkeesian, let alone abuse her. My personal experience in the communities I frequent is that there is definitely a contingent of men who are simply misogynists losing their minds about the fact that women are having more and more influence on gaming but the reality is that women are having more and more influence. Much like gay marriage it's an inevitablity if people keep pushing and working at it like they are today. In my personal opinion the general apathy towards the issue is more worrying than the pathetic people who are trying to stop it. They are loud but they are losing ground every day to both the women who are breaking through and the rest of us.

Of course I tend to frequent the parts of the internet where I'm not surrounded by the worst of humanity at all times so perhaps I don't have a good sample; I'd be interested to hear more opinions.

As a dude, I have to say I find this impotent rage utterly delicious.

No argument there; gaming has long been a boys' club. However, I do think there's some change, or at least greater potential for it, in the Western gaming scene. Sure, the square-jawed white dude is still the main character for many games, but there have also been a rise in female role models, especially in the indie gaming realm. Stuff like Gone Home, Bioshock Infinite and the new Tomb Raider are just some of the titles that come immediately to mind.

I agree lol. It shouldn't be such a big deal anyways. If a girl wants to play games, it's a girl games. If someone wants to be gay, someone wants to be gay.

(I should have said humanity...that was the word everyone says but it couldn't spring to my mind lol.)

Bug:  For the final loan payment, there's no actual description.  You hover over Onsen and it just says *.  Save file attached.

Also a bug but doesn't affect gameplay at all, I got two months back to back named "Descending Wood."

Bug:  When working at the onsen to trigger Katri's scene, the second scene is blanked out, no text.  Just an image of Katri.  Tried to check out the dump file to verify the scene name but got an error report upon opening it.

Edit: I'll wait for the eventual 0.91 release/dump file fix before poking at the game any further.

Double edit:  Whoops, didn't see the 'last beta release' comment.  I'll wait for the public release then.

Because you can only attach one file per post, here's another bug:

Going to the market for the option Visit Tom prompts a bug report text and halts the game.

Loan payment: Fixed.

Month repeat: I'm not sure how that could happen, but I'm going to ignore it, since it doesn't affect gameplay.

Katri scene: fixed.

Thanks for reporting, as always. :)

I'm glad to hear that you don't have to deal with much harassment. it is unfortunate that you have to deal with any, but cowardly assholes think that women make easier targets, so it is somewhat unavoidable. I look forward to seeing the completed game.

A minor typo                   v

Wend tries to dissemble, bot you give her a disapproving look. Silence stretches. She sighs and looks away. You remain silent until she finally decides it's not worth the trouble.

Thanks, fixed.
