Version 1.0.4

Thu, 10/23/2014 - 21:28 -- BlueWinds

Screw a SFW front page, I want to post a tentacle jpg.

Finally, after many months of disinterest, I fixed a couple bugs in Brothels.im. :)

Unexpected, yes? Well, here's the new version. It may be worth loading up your old saves and playing a tiny bit more - the most commonly reported bug that I fixed was one where the finale orgy with all the women caused the game to freeze whenever it would appear on the map. :)

I will be participating in NaNoWriMo this year. And guess what! Instead of writing a novel, I'm going to write text for the next game instead.

I've won every year I participated beyond the first day (I did quit day 2 once...), so by the end of November you can expect 50,000 words ready for the new game. Should at the very least get us through the demo. ;)

The release link does not appear to work. :(

BlueWinds on

Should be fixed. Thanks for letting me know.

You're very welcome! ^.^ Thank you for your games, I really like them!

GreenNymph on

It's giving me an "access denied" message too :\

BlueWinds on

Oh, right, fixed for logged in users too. ^^;;

Drupal changed some permissions (added a new level) when I upgraded a version, and I hadn't noticed until it was pointed out here.

GreenNymph on

It's working now, thank you :)

Cool to see some progress on the game and i can't wait to see how it goes as more is added

What kinds of stuff did you write for NaNo in years past?

BlueWinds on

Let's see. I've written:

  • 2009, A fantasy novel, dealing with magic run amuck. Handwritten, no accurate wordcount. 50-60k words.
  • 2010, A post-apocalyptic novel, with tones of a socialist societal critique. Just barely finished 50k, but to be fair, I did start Nov 5th rather than Nov 1st.
  • 2011, I stopped on day 2, working on a story of genetic engineering, asymetric information warfare, and the technological singularity.
  • 2012, A rework of the previous post-apoc novel, with much stronger characters (started from scratch for nano). Hit 80k words.
  • 2013, I didn't participate. Had idea for a story, but was struggling with depression too much to write it.

I feel the reworked novel from 2012 is the strongest piece of fiction I've done so far, but I have since learned more and would push the focus a bit differently.

Hey. Is there likely to be a wiki for the newer simbro?

BlueWinds on

Not likely. I don't particularly have the energy to maintain and keep a wiki spam-free. You're welcome to start one yourself if you'd like - if it were a useful resource, I'd happily link to it.

I don't know enough about the game to make one. I've done 2 playthroughs now and tried to change the way I played up the second time but I think I still missed a bunch of content and I'm unsure where the branch points to see it were.

BlueWinds on

There aren't a lot of branch points. The only decisions with long-term consequences (beyond seeing one scene or another, or having to try again later) are male/female PC, and the reaction when Wend and Hilde fight (either of the two "outside" answers, siding with one, drives the other away).

AColonyOfAnts on

Checking out the dump file is probably the best way to familiarize yourself with game if you intend on creating a wiki.  I've never played a male PC but I know all of his events.

BlueWinds on

dump.html contains all the game text, but doesn't really explain how/why different events trigger, which is mostly what a wiki really needs - "how do I achieve x?"

The game's .js files are not perfectly easy to understand, but I'd imagine one could find their way around even without knowing how to program. All the events are in the /content directory - if they avoid /engine and /game, they won't see anything too terrifying as far as code goes. :)

so if you win blue what do you get

BlueWinds on

Satisfaction? Having completed a big project? A brand new wall-of-text to edit and refine (that you just wrote).

is there a specific way to install or program to run it? normally i just play the one on the browser

BlueWinds on

Just extract the zip file, then double-click (or single click, if that's your computer rolls) index.html. It'll open in a web browser. :)
