Harem review

Mon, 02/10/2014 - 20:08 -- BlueWinds

I played through the latest release these past couple of days, and thought I'd give a review of the game.

This post gets an image of Monbach because while he'd enjoy the game, I can't particularly say I'm thrilled. Karter would probably play it, and masturbate furiously the whole time, but he'd be a bit ashamed of himself afterwards.

Women in technology

Sun, 02/09/2014 - 19:46 -- BlueWinds

So, I thought I would take some time to articulate some of my experience as a woman in tech.

1. Male privilege is real, and it is harmful.

The company I work with is rather small right now - a dozen people, only half of them full time. The CEO is male. The two other full time "tech" people are male. Two more part time tech contractors are male. The social media consultant is female, but we have as little in common as it's possible for two people to have (she has two children and never talks about anything except kids, partying or fashion).

Version 0.82, and a Poll

Which option did you choose, upon Wend and Hilde having their big fight? If you reloaded to look at more than one option (or have played through more than once), which one did you choose first? Before you knew the consequences, which one "felt right"?

Development Snapshot:

Nothing to report

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 01:36 -- BlueWinds

Today is the 11th annual International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation.

So, I was going to write a post, maybe update on some progress... but the subject matter just made me feel icky and sick. I'm usually pretty good at talking appreaching difficult subjects dispassionately, even those I have personal experience with (not this one, thankfully), but FGM is viscerally disturbing to me in a way that no amount of logic can overcome.

I'm going to go curl up and hide from the world for a few hours now. Thinking about it has left me too upset to do anything productive tonight.

Images, Running, Prostitutes

Sat, 02/01/2014 - 19:39 -- BlueWinds

First: I've started another image cleaning thread, dedicated to Karter / Katri. Hop on over there if you're interested in helping out. :)

I've been getting out about five nights per week for running. Not always a full two miles - sometimes I'll just jog home from somewhere I went during the day, and not feel like going out again later.

Last week, my fastest / furthest was 2mi / 20 minutes. This time it was 2mi / 18 minutes. It's an improvement! Not a huge improvement, but a good start.

I had very few takers for my challenge to get in shape alongside me. Those of you who did accept - have you been getting out daily? At all? Take up a sport of your choice because it was too cold outside? Share your stories, success or failure, in the comments. I want to hear - really, I do.

More words and a Running Challenge

Fri, 01/24/2014 - 01:26 -- BlueWinds

I choreographed another episode of "Hilde & Wend: Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" today. You can hire Hilde now, but "Death, Destruction and Kittens: Revenge of Wend" is still filming on location.

There will be a brief filler-arc involving Antinua throwing Hathawa against a wall and giving her an epic hickey, but I doubt the audience will mind (IE, I wrote two more scenes with them, because I <3 Ant/Hat, especially when Antinua is the one being vulnerable and needy).

I am out of shape. :( Relatively speaking, that is. I ran two miles tonight, it took 20 minutes, and I was hurting at the end. That sucks. I should be able to do at least three miles at that pace, or 2 miles in 15 minutes.

Challenge to you, dear internet readers: Let's get into shape together. Go running the day you read this, time yourself and measure your distance. Post your results here, however good or bad they are. No judgement shall be rendered! I don't like to plan a route in advance - I just notice streets where I turn, and plot them on a map (a digital map, of course) when I get back to estimate distance.

I'll cheer for you, and post an update on my progress in 7 days. You do the same.

Back in the Swing

Mon, 01/20/2014 - 01:51 -- BlueWinds

Woot, I'm writing again. I finished about 2900 words today, covering the third loan payment, the first third of Hilde's hiring event, and the introduction of another (eventually) hireable character. I'm aiming to finish Hilde's hire stuff for the next release (I know, I keep saying that, but this time for real!).

Remember, way back when, I promised that some characters remember your choices and change how they react to you? That's why Hilde's hire event is taking so long - Hilde and Wend have long memories, so there are several branching paths that each get their own events.

Not all choices can be unmade. Even in this fantasy world there are consequences. :)

Because I haven't poked the hornets nest enough recently, I leave you with an amusing link.

Not dead yet

Fri, 01/17/2014 - 19:03 -- BlueWinds

Three things in this post: A small release, then a long bit of Javascript Geekery, then a bit more baring my soul to the world. One picture for each.

So, I'm not dead yet. Here's a very small update to prove it. It contains only a single additional scene with Wend.

It does however have about 7 new or updated images, mostly for Wend and Hilde.

Also a couple of spelling corrections. Nothing terribly exciting.

Javascript generators are awesome. Like, 100% pure awesome. I <3 yield.

They've existed in Python just about forever, but Python doesn't really need them the way Javascript does. Python isn't designed for an asynchronous, event based programming style the way JS is.

So, the site has been undergoing a recent barrage of spam. You probably didn't notice anything, because anonymous comments require approval, but I've been deleting them by the dozens daily for almost a week. Blocking IP addresses has also helped somewhat.

Just in case you were wondering why you need email verification on the site, and why you sometimes have to fill out captchas... it's really the lesser of two evils.

Otherwise, I have been not terribly productive. Or rather, I've been exceedingly productive on things that aren't related to this game. Just a few bugfixes, and slow progress on some of Alison and Wend's stuff - nothing worth a release.
